In 2000, the Westcoast Mopar Club was looking for a place
where they could hold shows and swap meets. Later that year, the Bay
Area Flying Club offered to share their property on South Mobley Road with
us. The land sits on 19 acres, replete with a clubhouse and kitchen,
and holds more cars than any of our previous car show locations. Our first
event in the new site was held on March 11, 2001 with great success.
Ed Radice Park opened next to the field which meant that
the Bay Area FlyingClub would have to stop flying their model airplanes at
this location. In late 2001, Westcoast Mopar Club transferred the
lease from The Bay Area Flying Club and took over the property. Even though
WCMC has exclusive use of this property, it is owned by Hillsborough County
and is classified as a ’park’. To date, this is the only park in the
state which is not dedicated to children. The Westcoast Mopar Club’s
members originally named the land ‘Field of Dreams’ but later changed it to
‘Field of Wheels’.
In September, 2004, the Clubhouse took a hit during the 3
Hurricanes that swept through the Tampa area, taking down one side of the
Clubhouse. In late June,2005, Hillsborough County announced they were
demolishing the Field of Wheels building for safety reasons. The County plans
to put up a new building with bathrooms and a kitchen in the near future.
These changes will not affect our ability to hold our annual show as the
acreage is still usable.

South Mobley Road in Tampa, Florida. |
