The creation of Westcoast
Mopar Club was on the minds of the founding members for approximately two
years before its formation. The goal was to create an organization in which
members could share their passion for Mopars with fellow enthusiasts.
Activities like cruising, attending car shows, and the ability to swap or
sell cars and parts were important as a foundation.
The club became official
on October 21, 1989 with the
insight of Pro-Tem (temporary) officers: Allen Goodale, President; Pat Erdmann,
Vice President; Pam Morphew, Secretary; and Julie Henderson, Treasurer.
The first election of
officers by 25 of the founding members was held in February, 1990, with Pat
Erdmann, President; Ernie Morphew, Vice President; Julie Henderson,
Secretary and April Holt, Treasurer. Barry Holtan and Scott Radkte designed the club logo, which has been recently re-designed using the
same ideas of the original. The First Show and Swap meet was held in June,
1990 at what is now known as Jerry Ulm Dodge Dealership in Tampa, Florida.
It was by all accounts a success - more than 100 Mopars attended.
The club has survived several changes over the years and still boasts
membership of many of its founding members. There are at least two
club-sponsored shows a year; the spring show in March and a mini show held
at the anniversary picnic in October. The show size has grown to over
225 cars entered in 2005. The Club actively participates in the
annual Mopar event, Mopars with Big Daddy.
